MelodicMatch

Music Analysis Software

About this package:

MelodicMatch is a software program that assists musicologists in finding musical phrases in one or more pieces of music. MelodicMatch works with music notation encoded in the MusicXML format, widely used by popular music notation programs.

MelodicMatch allows you to search for melodies, rhythms and lyrics and to see where these phrases appear in the context of a large-scale piece. MelodicMatch produces diagrams that promote comparison between pieces. You can search for melodies in their original form and in common transformations such as inversion, retrograde and transposition.

MelodicMatch is available for immediate download, and can be used in its unlicensed form at no cost.

About the creators:

Philip Wheatland trained initially as a musician and teacher and taught music for a number of years in a secondary school. Philip has also worked extensively as a software developer and designer.
